I contacted Acronis and they said that third party defragging programs can cause the huge file size. Note: I was using O&O defragmenter to defrag the system before a backup and the filesize was in the 24GB range. The log really helps out because there is no guess work as to what I need to reinstall or get off the system and the notes are easy to keep up with and can be as detailed as needed.

It's kind of a one step back - 2 steps forward method of ensuring a clean up to date system that I found the most efficient. Once I have the system back to the point I want it, I'll defrag(using MS's defrag program), run NAV and spyswepper and create a new TIB file.

I always make a backup of a clean virus/spyware free system, so I am sure that what I restore is "clean". Then when I feel the system is creeping along or NAV starts bugging out, I'll do a restore to the last backup and I can just refer to the running log as to what I need to reinstall/uninstall/update.whatever.

Whenever I install or uninstall or do anything significant to the system, I just keep a running log. Or maybe the system just gets bogged down from hard use by that time.Įver since I've started using True Image, I've kept a notepad file in a folder in my "System Resoruce" partition and a shortcut on the desktop. Seems that I get some funky IE or Spysweeper or NAV bug every so often - usually at the 6mo. Just trying to avoid using up an expensive REV disk, but in the end may be a good idea since I can compress a 35GB REV disk to 90GB (or something like that). I thought I'd see if anyone has any workable advice before I dedicate a REV disk to archiving the backups. I was trying to use PowerISO, but it would give me a message saying that the file is too large (>4GB) or that it was an unknown file extension.

I was wondering if there was any way to compress the large file (*.tib extension) to fit onto a single DVD-R or maybe at the most compress/split the file to fit on 2 DVD-R's? I know that I can/should be able to just delete the older ones since I have reliable more current ones. The files are now between 9GB to 12GB for the last 4 that I've done. I found that saving them directly to a partitoin on my HDD can create much more smaller compression rates. When I first started using it, I used to create the backups directly to DVD-R's and the system image was split into however many req'd discs (usual min. I use Acronis True Image to create backup/restore images of my system.
